Oracle supports Hyperion release 11.2 through at least 2033. We explain the suite, the 3 routes off it and how to date a business case for leaving.
Hyperion software is Oracle's on-premises EPM suite, bought with Hyperion Solutions in 2007. The main products are Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), Hyperion Planning and Essbase. Every business case for leaving starts from the support date on the release the group runs.
Oracle bought Hyperion in 2007 and still sells the suite as Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management release 11.2. HFM runs the consolidation, Hyperion Planning runs the budget and Essbase is the database under both.
Release 11.2 runs on a continuous innovation model. Oracle ships application and technology updates to it without a major upgrade.
Some groups installed HFM in 2011 and have patched it 4 times since. Their consolidation rules were often written by a consultant who left in 2014.
The consolidation: entities, ownership, translation, intercompany and the rule file that has grown for a decade.
The budget and the forecast, on Essbase cubes with their own copy of the entity and account hierarchies.
The multidimensional database under Planning and under the reporting cubes finance built for itself.
The data loads and mappings from each ERP into HFM and Planning, owned by 1 person in most groups.
The report books and the Excel connection the finance team uses every day of the close.
The master data, where a group bought it, and the reason the entity list agrees between HFM and Planning.
Without Data Relationship Management, an estate holds its entity list at least twice. Our survey counts the copies.
Release 11.2 is the long-term support release for Hyperion. Oracle premier support is available for it through at least 2033.
Support for release 11.1.2.x ended in December 2021, and a group still on 11.1.2.4 is now past that date.
Oracle has moved the 11.2 date before. A business case should use the date Oracle shows today.
Upgrade to 11.2 under Oracle's continuous innovation model, and keep the rules, the reports and the loads as they are.
Rebuild HFM on Financial Consolidation and Close and Planning on Oracle Planning, inside Oracle's subscriptions.
Rebuild the consolidation, the plan and the reports on 1 model in OneStream (EPM software), with 1 entity list.
The first route keeps the estate on Oracle's support timetable. A survey of the estate shows which of the other 2 fits.
| Stay on 11.2 | Oracle Fusion Cloud EPM | OneStream | |
|---|---|---|---|
| The consolidation rules | Kept as written. | Rewritten on FCCS's fixed dimensions. | Rewritten on OneStream's model. |
| The entity list | As many copies as today. | 1 per application, or 1 in Enterprise Data Management. | 1, read by the close, the plan and the reports. |
| The data loads | FDMEE, as today. | Data Management in the cloud, mappings rebuilt. | OneStream's own loads, mappings rebuilt. |
| The reports | Financial Reporting books kept. | Rebuilt in the cloud reporting tools. | Rebuilt on the new model. |
| The support position | Oracle premier support through at least 2033 for release 11.2. | Continuous, inside Oracle's subscription. | Continuous, inside OneStream's subscription. |
| The structure it suits | A group with a stable estate and no date in the diary. | A group on Oracle Fusion ERP adding 1 application at a time. | A group whose close and plan have to share 1 model. |
The date comes from an event the finance team cannot move. That event might be a listing, an integration, a new CFO's first year end or an audit asking for evidence the workbooks cannot give.
A group with 14 months to its date and 4,000 lines of rules spends the first month surveying the rules.
A case dated only on Oracle's support moves each time Oracle changes its date. A case dated on the group's own event stays where it is.
The HFM application in a group with several entities holds every ownership change and every acquisition's rules. Constancia reads the whole application before it quotes for a move.
The survey lists every rule, report, load and hierarchy in the estate. We fix the price of the OneStream route on that list.
In some groups 3 finance directors each keep their own copy of the HFM entity list. The new model holds 1 list, and all 3 get read access.
